Doctoral Psych Students' Dissertation Community

Well, considering that I just spent my Friday working on the first draft of my dissertation proposal (it's 75% done - woo hoo!), let me be the first to introduce msyelf...

My name is Julie and I'm a 5th year Clinical Psych student, with a Child Neuropsych emphasis. My dissertation will be on the neurodevelopmental effects of chronic hypoxia in preterm birth infants, assessed at preschool age. I am very fortunate in that I've been collecting my data all along under a larger study, so when the time comes and I get this sucker approved, I'll be all set and ready to start analyzing. I'm totally Stats-Phobic and hate the entire research process. I plan to defend before I begin Internship next September (which obviously means I am in the midst of the APPIC process right now also), hopefully even sooner than that. And I guess that's about it.

Good for you for being close to done with your proposal...and yay for data sets at the ready! ;-D

I totally hear you on the stats-phobic thing. I am too! My pre-dissertation project was a basic multiple regression, but my dissertation involves much more complex stuff. It's freaking me out!

I hope you manage to get everything done before internship. That was my plan, but my plan was foiled by my very overextended/MIA dissertation chair. But I hope things turn out better for you.

Good luck with the match. Have you seen the psych_interns community? It's not super-active, but there is at least one other person on there applying for next year. Last year, there were three of us and, though it was small, it was a nice little supportive group. Best wishes!
